Al Sieber, Chief of Scouts, 6th U.S. Cavalry

In 1883 Gen. Crook led a major expedition into the Sierra Madre of Mexico (against the Chiricahuas who followed Geronimo). Sieber was the principal scout in this expedition. He continued to serve the army in the early campaigns against Geronimo, but he was not present at the final capture. However, his protege, Tom Horn, was present, a testimonial to the lessons taught by Sieber to his scouts.
